I co-author the webcomic Namesake. This Tumblr is the unashamed fandom side of me, and as such, there's a lot of squeeing over Doctor Who, Slayers and other interests with fic shared.

Joss Whedon and Steven Moffat decide to collaborate on a TV series.

machadaynu:

But this is what I was talking about last night!

Doctor Who is a show made for children which adults can enjoy if they want.

But I bet the people sending Moffat hate were all pretty grown up. If you asked the kids what they thought of Doctor Who they’d probably tell you to shut up because they’re sticking in another DVD and the music’s starting.

The people who sent Moffat abuse were grown ups. People who should know better. We all have episodes of Doctor Who we don’t like… but sending direct hate mail to someone for making creative decisions which you wouldn’t have done is just ridiculous. You’re bullies.

And this sums up perfectly how I feel about this.

It’s one thing not to care for an episode, to disagree with the writing decisions. It’s another to hurl death threats at someone. Threats against his family and friends. How many people who harassed Moffat constantly were the victim of bullies themselves? How many are those who are parents telling their kids to do the exact opposite of what they’re doing?

There’s also the whiners whom I see constantly @ tweet to Moffat day-after-day for him to reply back to them. The worst is the passive-aggressive sort that do an @tweet at someone else Moffat knows (Like Caro Skinner, Karen Gillan or Arthur Darvill) whining about how they wish Moffat would tweet at them. That’s not cool either.

Look at the reaction I’m already seeing on Tumblr. It’s a perfect example as to why Moffat deleted his Twitter. “Moffat isn’t allowed to delete his account, because he has to be able to take criticism,” one person claimed. The man has every single right to do this. With all the hatred and vitriol hurled at him constantly by people who claim to be fans of the series — which happens totally goes against the entire spirit of Doctor Who to begin with — no wonder he deleted. I would do the same thing. I’ve had fandom completely ruin series for me. I’m glad Moffat did it, because I don’t want the same thing happening to him.

You’re now auto-enrolled in Trolling 101, Introduction to Advanced Trolling and Trolling Techniques for Fangirls with electives in Promo Dangling, Witholding Air Dates, the Fine Art of Innuendo, and Dealing with Psychological Traums through Fanfiction. I’m your Headmaster, Steven Moffat. These are my top professors: Matt Smith, Alex Kingston, Mark Gatiss and Caro Skinner. Your tuition will be paid by the sound of tears and wailing.

Those enrolled in the Fine Art of Innuendo are instructed by Professor Kingston to bring their own handcuffs.

Congratulations to our evil overlord for his BAFTA win!

I MET MOFFAT AND HIS WIFE!

*EPIC KEYBOARD SMASH*

After the event, the majority of the fans went into the line for Benedict Cumberbatch, but I was there more for Moffat. I don’t remember shaking Moffat’s hand, and he gave me this look when I said he looked a bit shellshocked at all the Doctor Who fans during filming last month. :P

But oh, his wife is so lovely — I wish that more people had asked her questions during it all because she loves the series so much, and she’s just as enthusiastic about it as Moffat is. My “Sherlock” question had to do with the use of print media in series 2, and I asked about the newspapers used and how they were produced. Sue said that the copy and photos were provided to the papers and they did the layout/design so it was all authentic. They were careful in selecting the newspapers to make sure the coverage was balanced, and you can tell that the more sensational papers were the ones to make the most extreme accusations against Sherlock in series 2. I really wish I’d had a chance to talk more about that, but I was trying not to hog all the time.

They also really liked my Southern accent, which I lapsed into because I was so nervous.

Moffat even suggested I be in the middle, but I liked the picture how it turned out just fine. :)

I just love the look on Moffat’s face as he takes in all the fans that were there. And he doesn’t even realize at that point what’s waiting him Thursday night!

I solemnly swear that those two are up to no good.

Our overlord has joined the shooting.
