Fic Rec: The Cosmos Within by CelesteAvonne

This is a wonderful fic. It’s TenToo x Rose with Eleven, River, Amy, and Rory. It’s set between series 5 and series 6 for Eleven and co.

It is a gorgeous fic that really dives into the Doctor’s feelings for Rose and their past together during series 2. However, it is a gorgeous character story for Amy, Rory, and River. It has Rose being just outstanding, River being a badass (and not always getting it right, which I love immensely), and Amy and Rory being Amy and Rory, with proper exploration of all their vulnerabilities. Eleven and TenToo are wonderful as well.

It’s the perfect fic for this part of the series because it’s clearly a TenToo/Rose story that allows the Doctor closure and hints at the future Eleven/River pairing without diving into it. It’s canon-compliant, which is all sorts of love. If you’re a fan of TenToo/Rose and want to see a wonderful appearance from Eleven/River/Amy/Rory with absolutely no cattiness, no jealously (except the Doctor being jealous of himself), wonderful friendships and everyone being their awesome selves, I can’t recommend this story enough.

In Moments Like This by FanficwriterGHC

So, I found Emma’s fanfic via reblog yesterday. I reblogged it, but then discovered her first Doctor Who story.

It is amazing.

It’s post-Library, but written pre-TNOTD, so it covers River’s life in the mainframe. It is an absolutely lovely story of River dealing with the hand that was dealt her regarding the Library and how she takes Charlotte under her wing and they form a family. Everything about this story is so well-done - the raw emotion, the little adventures, the character growth and especially the last few chapters. It’s one of the best looks at River’s Library life I’ve ever read, and I look forward to re-reading this story.

Just got this at Philly Comic Con. A bit late for River Song Day, but I am not passing up the chance to get a River-themed rose.

Doctor Who BBC Blog - Five Years of Song

Tomorrow - Friday, 31 May, 2013 - is the fifth anniversary of River Song’s very first appearance in Doctor Who. The buccaneering archaeologist made her debut in Silence in the Library, crashing into the Doctor’s life with a flirtatious smile and a soon-to-be trademark, ‘Hello, sweetie!’

And so tomorrow we celebrate half a decade of River. We’ll have a special quiz that we promise not to call ‘name that Song’ plus wallpapers, some of our favourite River quotes, exclusive ‘spot the difference’ games, a new gallery and more.

Don’t forget, BBC iPlayer users can still catch River’s most recent appearance in The Name of the Doctor and if you want to get ready for tomorrow, why not download one of our new River Song wallpapers now?

We’ll also be supporting #River Song Day here on the Doctor Who Tumblr. Details in a bit.

This blog is a strong supporter of River Song Day.

A subtle reminder from the BBC that tomorrow is River Song Appreciation Day. We’ll be celebrating it on Tumblr as well! Remember to submit artwork, fic, graphics and more and tag it River Song Appreciation Day.

My progression as a Doctor/River fan, or why Steven Moffat will foot my therapy bills

The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon: Wow, look at all that sexual chemistry! I ship them. Must write fic.
A Good Man Goes to War: Look at them! Awww, one of my top five ships. Must write more fic.
The Wedding of River Song: HOLY CRAP, OTP. *dives into fandom*
The Name of the Doctor: THIS IS NOT A SHIP, IT IS A FUCKING SUBMARINE WITH TRAGIC OTP FEELS AND HEARTACHE AND PAIN AND MATTEX AND ALL THE TEARS AND ALL THE AWARDS, AND RIVER BETTER COME BACK. *ugly sobbing and replays kiss over and over again*

Pairing/Characters: Doctor/River, Amy/Rory, Vastra/Jenny, Strax

Notes: Since “The Name of the Doctor” aired, I’d been wondering if originally Amy, Rory, and a younger River were meant to go there, that Steven Moffat had to change his plans once Amy and Rory were written out of the series. I wondered how it would work, and the wonderful Kehwie suggested I write an alterate realty exploring what would have happened, in the vein of similar episode rewrites I’d done for series 7a. I originally didn’t plan on it, but the opening scene came to me and it didn’t stop. Thanks for the inspiration, Kehwie! Note that if you haven’t seen “The Name of the Doctor,” you will be spoiled silly.

Summary: “The doors require a key. The key is a word. The word is the Doctor’s. But not just his. The key is a word lost in time. A secret hidden in the deepest shadow and known to him alone, but there is another who shares that secret. And she’s standing before me.”

Pairing/Characters: Doctor/River, Clara

Notes: This fic takes place after “The Name of the Doctor,” so heavy spoilers if you haven’t watched the episode. But if you have seen it, then this fic is a dose of medicine for you.

Summary: When it was all said and done, when the madness regarding the version of himself he refused to acknowledge had passed, and they all were restored to their rightful places, he went to the other place he vowed to never go.

"I’m so attached to that character. I never expected her to grow and develop in the way she has. You never know whether she’s going to be hard-ass or good. As long as Steven Moffat has storylines that include her, I will always say yes."

—Alex Kingston(March 2013)

When The Doctor was talking to Clara about it not being a ghost story but a love story in “Hide,” that’s because River never left him. He was always seeing her, even when he didn’t outright acknowledge her or tell others about her. She was always with him, his data ghost.

Why I think we’ll see River again

I think this is when the Doctor finally comes to terms with River’s death, the guilt over what happened at the Library, and his feelings for her. He knows he can see her again if he chooses, because she implies it. Spoilers. Yes, that can be that River is letting the Doctor know that Clara is alive. But, I think it’s beyond that as well.

I think this is when the Doctor becomes River’s Doctor. Because he’s accepted his love for her and her death. He can go to younger her and freely love her and be the Doctor that River knows and have the marriage that River remembers and treasures and tells Ten about in “Forest of the Dead.” It’s not over for them. I fully believe she’ll be there when he regenerates.
