Summary: He had friends who loved him, and he had a family. He was willing to admit that. But, embracing all the gifts he’d been given meant that he had to clean up the messes he made, and that had to start with her.
Reblogging this after a discussion about the Doctor, River and the time gaps in series 7 with kerjenfanfic. Pretty much, this story is one long meta about why the Doctor avoided seeing River for so long after their wedding.
This was originally written in December, so it’s not going to match with the series 7 spoilers out there. So, it’s safe to read! We do know now that for the Doctor, “First Night/Last Night” took place after the Christmas Special.

And when Irene dashed around the corner, she spotted the weathered blue box with the man dressed in tweed and a bowtie leaning against the door. He cracked it open and called inside, “Are you sure this is the right place, River? You know, you could really let me drive … Oh! Oh!” The man pushed off the door and bounded over to her. “Hello! I’m the Doctor. Sherlock asked me for a favor, and since he helped me when I was in a tight spot a few years back, we’re taking you on a trip. My wife really wants to meet you.”
The entire cast is flawless. Every single one of them I adored, and the episode was really, really good. It was a beautifully told story, Moffat did a superb job, and I loved it.
I only had one observation though about something I was expecting …
Sonic screwdriver love. And yes, River’s is topping Eleven’s. ^___^ His screwdriver is much louder and more showy, but hers fits into tighter places and has surprises. I think it’s an accurate reflection of their owners.
I have loved this opening for Rurouni Kenshin for years. Actually, nearly 11 years now, wow. But lately, I’ve been imagining this opening made to Doctor Who series 6 with the clips set in the same style as the Rurouni Kenshin opening. Sadly, the clips I would want don’t exist, and I don’t have drawing skills necessary. But in my head I see …
