OK, so the meme is 10 favorite TV ships, but to be honest, I don’t watch all that much TV and tend to read books, comics, manga, etc. So, this just will encompass all of that. These are all ships I’ve written for:
1 (tie). Lina/Gourry, Slayers
1 (tie). Doctor/River, Doctor Who
1 (tie). Eve/Roarke, J.D. Robb’s “In Death” series
For years, when forced to pick just one of these, I’d point to Lina/Gourry largely because of the extremely positive effect that shipping these two characters has had on my personal life: Writing Lina/Gourry fic is how I met my husband, Isa, and a good deal of close friends. But, I can’t discount the fact either that I devour “In Death” novels and largely because of how wonderful Eve and Roarke are. “The Wedding of River Song” escalated Doctor/River from normal shipping to OTP status because they got a happy ending. I wasn’t expecting one. It’s so flawed that it’s gorgeous, and there’s so much left to be developed, but you know things turn out OK with them because older River tells Amy this. She’s still quite content to be married, which means they made it work, and that’s fantastic in my book.
All three of these pairings present couples who work well together, are amazing, fierce, independent people on their own and are willing to damn the universe for each other. When things get rough, they don’t give up on each other. From everything that happened to Eve in “New York to Dallas” to Lina casting the Giga Slave to save Gourry to River risking the universe and the Doctor not forcing River into touching him to reset time, there’s faith, tenacity and enough stubbornness with all six of these characters to fill three oceans. I love them all.
4. Kenshin/Kaoru, Rurouni Kenshin
5. Kraft Lawrence/Holo, Spice and Wolf
6. Peabody/McNab, J.D. Robb’s “In Death” series
7. Anna/Kratos, Tales of Symphonia
8. Amy/Rory, Doctor Who
9. Harry/Ginny, Harry Potter
10. Doctor/Rose, Doctor Who
There’s actually a ship that’s among my top favorites, but I can’t share it yet else I’d be spoiling Namesake for people. ^_~ And, yes, I’m one of those people who ship Doctor/River and Doctor/Rose at the same time. Both relationships have huge roles to play in the series.
